I like ice in my drinks, thank you.
While some people have been pleasantly surprised by the lack of snow we’ve had this winter in Cornwall, I don’t know whether the tradeoff is all that great. There’s been so much ice this season it literally is a pain to deal with. I spent almost two hours chipping nearly three inches of ice out of my driveway and I was feeling it in my shoulders, arms and hands for the next couple of days. Plus, I dread walking anywhere in a parking lot or some sidewalks where you look like you’re shuffling along and just hoping you don’t hit the pavement. I feel, especially for older people, because one false move could mean a broken hip or an arm. Goodness knows how much this ice has had an effect on hospital emergency rooms. Even the City of Cornwall says it’s been a challenge and they’ve asked people to be patient while they deal with the situation. So while it’s nice not to shovel, I’m not convinced that ice or freezing rain is the lesser of two evils. I’m Bill Kingston.
